Google India’s chief executive Sundar Pichai on Tuesday reiterated his commitment to the country, saying the country is one of the most vibrant, successful and fast-growing markets in the world.
Speaking to reporters after the launch of the company’s new Android 8.0 software on Tuesday, Pichae said India is one the fastest growing markets for Google and the world is lucky to have it.
He said the global market for smartphones and tablets has grown by nearly 80 percent from the year-ago quarter.
Pichai, who is also India’s telecom minister, said the company has invested in infrastructure, including in telecom and internet infrastructure.
“India has always been an exciting market, a big player in the global mobile internet space,” he said.
“But this is the beginning of a great transformation.”
Pichae also said the country has made tremendous progress in the last four years, adding that Google has invested more than $1 billion in the country.
